Samantha Alberto on Call of Duty

On an average day Freshman Samantha Alberto is on her Xbox 360 playing Call of Duty. She switches between any in the Call of Duty series-like Black Ops,Modern Warefare, Modern Warefare II, World at War, etc.- since she likes all of them.
Call of Duty is a popular first-person shooter game that is based on wars that have happened. It first started as a computer game, but became a console game for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, among other systems, in 2003.
Call of Duty is Alberto’s favorite game because “I like the ability to act as if I am in combat, but still within the safety of my own home.” It allows her to be able to feel as if she was in war but still safe at home. Alberto can play for eight hours before she needs to take a break because she is so engaged in the game that she doesn’t want to leave.
While playing online with other people, Alberto is very animated and talks freely with the other players. When she meets someone new online, become friends like someone would on Facebook in order to play together again at another time.
When Alberto is on XboxLive, the reaction of the guys she plays against is usually one of disbelief. A girl playing a first person shooter? Alberto is somewhat of a rarity. It is hard for guys to accept that she is an actually girl playing a shooting game at all, and that she is so good at it. On top of being surprised by Alberto’s skill, guys she plays against try to flirt because they have found a girl that they could relate to.
Alberto’s Dad first introduced her to video games when she was five. Seeing as she couldn’t play violent games yet, he started her out with games like Final Fantasy. A role playing game-otherwise known as RPG, that is based on a story and leveling up characters.
Alberto said that “If there was a world that had all the girls hate video games, I would hate it. It’s like they are missing a very important part of interactive entertainment.”
Alberto is not the only girl out there that likes video games like Call of Duty. There are forums and Facebook pages for girls to talk about the game. One Facebook page has over 175 members in its Call of Duty for girl group.
The one tip Alberto offers to girls wanting to try out first person shooting games would be “Start the game on easy and don’t give up. The controls take a while to get used to, but soon it will be second nature.”
Alberto’s love for shooting games can spread to the percentage of females that don’t play video games. Playing video games like Call of Duty is something both girls and guys enjoy. Also it could become very addicting as people play it more.
Ladies, don’t let the male dominated world of Call or Duty and other first-person shooter games intimidate you.
